I traveled to Turkey in 2011, before the anti-government protests in 2013, the attempted coup in 2016, and recent move towards a non-secular, autocratic state. When I was there, Turkey was unknowingly at the tail end of a period of economic growth, social inclusion, and political stability. It was full of life, colors, and energy. I was lucky enough to travel in a time of peace.
